With the first signs of spring starting to appear, itโs the perfect excuse to freshen up your table and create something beautiful for a special occasion โ whether it’s Motherโs Day, a spring birthday, or an Easter gathering. And the good news? You donโt need hours to pull together a stylish, welcoming table. With a few clever touches โ like personalised place settings or simple floral accents โ you can create something really special with minimal fuss.
Here are my favourite ideas to style a spring table, whether youโve got 2 minutes or a luxurious 30.
Got 2 Minutes? Quick Wins for a Beautiful Table
If youโre short on time but still want your table to feel special, donโt worry โ a few simple touches can make all the difference.

- Personalised Place Settings: Pop a personalised name wreath or initial decoration in the centre of each plate. Itโs an easy way to add a thoughtful touch and your guests can take them home or hang them on an Easter tree afterwards.
- A Pop of Spring Colour: Fold a napkin (I love a soft linen one) in the centre of the plate and tuck a small sprig of mimosa, waxflower, or any spring bloom under the edge of the plate on one side. Quick, simple, and instantly pretty.
- Bonus Tip: If youโve got a bit of time the night before, you can pre-prep your place settings and simply lay them out when itโs time to serve.

Got 30 Minutes? Create a Showstopper
If youโve got a bit more time and want to create something really wow-worthy, hereโs how to level up your table styling.
- Layer Up Your Textures: Start with a neutral tablecloth (I love my brown linen one as it goes with everything) and add a contrasting table mat under each plate โ straw, linen, or textured fabric all work beautifully.
- Build a Floral Wreath Effect Around the Plates: Use sprigs of mimosa, catkins, waxflower, or pussy willow to create a loose wreath effect under each plate. Work in odd numbers (3โs or 5โs) and let it feel relaxed, not too perfect. A little movement makes it feel effortless.
- Personal Touches: Top each plate with a personalised name wreath or initial decoration. Itโs such a lovely way to make each guest feel special and they get a little keepsake to take home or frame later.

Pro tip: If you donโt have enough flowers for a full wreath, alternate the amount of flowers and foliage you use for each place setting โ some could have a full wreath effect, while others might simply have a sprig or two. This still creates a beautifully cohesive look without requiring an abundance of blooms.
Making Space for Food (Without Losing the Pretty!)
One of the biggest challenges with a styled table is leaving enough space for serving dishes โ especially if thereโs a roast involved! Another thing to keep in mind is the height of your decorations โ aim for arrangements no taller than 15-20cm so that guests can easily talk across the table without obstruction. Hereโs my go-to trick:
- Use bud vases or pretty glasses to hold individual sprigs of flowers (like mimosa, waxflower, or catkins) along the centre of the table. It keeps the floral feel without cluttering the space.
- Once everyone is seated and the food arrives, you can quickly gather the vases into a cluster off to the side, making space for dishes while still keeping the table looking lovely.
- After the meal, recentre the flowers while you linger over coffee โ itโs the perfect way to keep the mood feeling special.

Getting the Best from Your Cut Flowers
To make sure your flowers look their best throughout your celebration (and beyond!), here are a few simple tips:
- Give Them a Good Drink: Ideally, cut your flowers and foliage the day before and let them have a good drink for at least 24 hours. This helps them stay perky and fresh.
- Cut the Stems Properly: Always cut the ends of the stems at a sharp angle and place them straight into clean water. This maximises water uptake and keeps your flowers looking fresh.
- Watch for Uninvited Guests: If youโre foraging from the garden, be mindful of any little insects that may hitch a ride โ the last thing you want is an unexpected dinner guest! Preparing your flowers the day before gives you time to spot (and relocate) any critters.
- Stick to a Colour Palette: To keep your table looking cohesive, stick to one or two main colours but play around with different shades and textures within that palette for interest.

Decorations with a Life Beyond the Celebration
One of the things I love most about using personalised decorations, like our papercut name wreaths or initial decorations, is that they donโt have to end up in a drawer afterwards.
- Take-Home Keepsakes: Your guests can take their place setting home and hang it up, display it on a shelf, or even frame it as a little reminder of the day.
- Seasonal Decor: If youโre hosting an Easter celebration, these pieces look beautiful hung on an Easter tree or used in future table settings.

A little thoughtfulness goes such a long way โ and itโs always lovely when your decorations have a life beyond the day itself.
So whether youโve got two minutes or thirty, you can easily pull together a spring table that feels beautiful, welcoming, and just a little bit magical. And the best part? It doesnโt have to feel like a huge effort โ just a few clever touches that make all the difference.
